About this book

A good first impression with a new client is mostly logistics, and it is easy to forget a step when you are also doing the work. This checklist pack gives freelancers and small service businesses a repeatable process from yes to goodbye.

You get a pre-onboarding checklist covering the proposal and agreement phase and your internal setup, a welcome packet template with a welcome message and a list of what you need from the client, and a project kickoff questionnaire about the client, the project and the logistics. A communication preferences sheet records how and when each client wants to hear from you.

An offboarding checklist closes the project with deliverable handoff, admin, relationship building and a request for feedback. A filled-in example for a freelance web designer shows the pages in use.

Welcome Packet Template

Send this to the client within 24 hours of signing the contract.

What to Include:

Thank you message and project overview
Your working hours and response time expectations
Preferred communication channel (email, Slack, Voxer, etc.)
Project timeline with key dates and milestones
What you need from the client (and by when)
How revisions/feedback works
FAQ section (common questions your clients ask)
Your cancellation/refund policy (already in contract, but reiterate)
